

Dwight Vincent Murray, 82, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was born on May 16, 1944, in Castalia, North Carolina, a place whose roots and traditions remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Willard Murray and Larona “Onie” Denton Murray, as well as his siblings, Alice Faye Whiteford, Janie Murray Wilmot, and Jerry Randall Murray.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Judy Jill Murray; daughter Tanya Murray Keller and her children, Beverly Keller and Mark Keller; daughter Andrea Murray Mead; son James Donald Goff and his wife Leticia, along with their children, Randy Goff and his wife Danielle, and Noe Goff; son Ryan Vincent Murray and his wife Tiffany, and their son Dylan.
After graduating from Red Oak High School in North Carolina, Dwight pursued trade school studies and built a successful career in mechanics, construction, and insurance. Following his move to Houston in the early 1980s, he established his own business and became highly respected in his field for his knowledge, skill, and work ethic.
Dwight was independent, hardworking, and a natural storyteller with a sharp sense of humor. He had a lifelong passion for building and restoring classic cars, especially his treasured Shelby Cobra and Corvette. He also held a deep interest in Civil War history and was an avid collector of historical artifacts. After retiring in 2005, Dwight fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a published author. He wrote four novels inspired by Civil War history, family stories, and personal research. Dedicated to authenticity, he visited each battlefield referenced in his books.
Dwight’s happiest memories were always with his family and friends, including summer road trips to Colorado, spending time in his garage working on cars, and telling stories and sharing memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478, US, on June 6, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Dwight Murray to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of your choice.
