Our beloved father and grandfather, Eugene “Gene” Robert Manson, 91, of Houston, TX went peacefully to be with our heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Gene was born on July 26, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Eugene Charles Manson & Bernadine Emrich Manson.
Gene graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in petroleum engineering in 1955 and has always been a devoted Ohio State Buckeye fan. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. On June 30, 1957, Gene married the love of his life, Lois Ann Bob and began a future filled with love, joy, family & many adventures. He had a very successful career as a petroleum engineer working for various oil and gas firms over the years both in Louisiana and Texas.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Lois Ann Bob Manson and is survived by his children, Cherie Hendershot and her husband, Trey, of Missouri City, TX, Christopher Manson and his wife, Lori, and her sons Alex and Ethan Smith of Sugar Land, TX; his granddaughters, Kelsey Hendershot, Sydney Hendershot, Hailey Hendershot and Camryn Manson; his sister, Mary Lou Zollinger of Millersport, Ohio, his brother-in-law, Phillip Stuart of Baltimore, Ohio, his girlfriend Debbie Macbeth of Sugar Land, Texas, as well as extended family, the “Harem” (former C&K employees) and many friends and wonderful neighbors.
Gene is also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Stuart and Verna Hale and his brother-in-law, Jack Zollinger.
Gene loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed his early morning tennis matches, snow skiing, water skiing and later in life, his Pilates class with Beth. He was an adventure seeker and found that in skydiving and helicopter skiing. Yet, the true joy and greatest adventure of his life was being Grandpa to Kelsey, Sydney, Hailey, and Camryn.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will occur on Saturday, October 28th at 2:00pm at Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77478.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the caregivers that showed great compassion and gentleness while monitoring dad’s well-being and addressing his medical and personal needs during the last months of his life. These angels include Raquel Garibaldi, Andreia Nangju, and Simone Eubanks.
The outpouring of prayers and love for dad and our family has been an enormous comfort during this difficult time. Our hearts are heavy over the loss of this loving husband, father, Grandpa, uncle, and friend. However, our undying faith in our Lord and Savior assures us that after 24 years apart, dad is with our mother in their heavenly home free of his impaired physical health, and our minds and hearts are comforted knowing we will be reunited one day.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.settegastkopf.com for the Manson family.
