Frances Mae Warren, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on January 12, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the younger of two daughters born to Cuba Savannah and Myrtle Owens.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Dr. David Warren; her sister, Evelyn Jones; and her daughters, Penny Commerford and Pamela Patterson. She also endured the heartbreaking loss of two sons in early childhood.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Warren and Shelia (Michael) Person; her son-in-law Vernon Patterson; her grandchildren David Christopher Warren, Corey Ford, Naaman (Quanasier) Smith, Revée (Brenton) Smith-Hughes, Matthew (Ebony) Patterson, Canaan Smith, Alisha (Jason) Robinson, Quincy Commerford, Warren Muldrow, and Sydney Commerford; her niece Stephanie (Kelvin) Jones-Williams; nephews Darrick (Shelia) Jones, Byron Jones, and Gary (Terri) Jones; a host of great-grandchildren, and many dear friends who were like family.
Frances graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943 and married shortly after at age 17. During World War II, while her husband served in the military, she supported the war effort as an egg inspector and received training in aircraft welding. Later, she began working at St. Mary’s Hospital as an X-ray technician to help support her husband through medical school. She gracefully transitioned from her career to become a full-time homemaker in 1960 after her husband earned his medical license. She also supported patients as a volunteer at Lakeside Hospital and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
A woman of intelligence and drive, Frances was a lifelong learner. In her 60s, she returned to school and earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Avila College in 1986, followed by a master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University in 1989.
Frances was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She found joy and purpose in service—volunteering for prayer hours in the chapel, helping to maintain the church as part of the SEAS Bees group. Her faith was central to her life and a source of her enduring strength.
Known for her grace, integrity, and positivity, Frances was a true matriarch. She was elegant, classy, and carried herself with dignity and warmth. She was a motherly figure to many—an excellent caregiver, role model, and source of encouragement and inspiration. Her kindness extended beyond her family, and she was respected by all who knew her
