
GARY DALE SCHWING, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 5, 1946, while his dad was working there after World War II. He died on October 4, 2011. Gary was raised in Ohio, attended General Motors Institute while working full time, and graduated with degrees in Engineering and Physics from Georgetown College, in Georgetown, KY. He went into the Marine Corps to become a pilot and became a fighter pilot and a Major. He was in the first U.S. trained Harrier (Jump Set) Squad, and lived and trained with the RAF in England for six months. After leaving the Marines, he went to work for a California airline and met his wife, Stephanie. They had one date and married, renewing their vows every year on their anniversary. They have been married for thirty-two years. Gary went to work for a Commercial Real Estate firm in Palo Alto, and was in the top five nationally within a very short time. He then did real estate investments for many years, including eleven land deals in Houston and Pearland after moving to Texas. He has continued to invest in various businesses and start-ups in diverse fields ever since. Gary loved learning a new business and taking a project to fruition. He was preceded in death by immediate family; his father, Dale Schwing of Hamilton, OH; his grandparents, John and LaVonne Schwing of Sunman, IN; and James and Anna Stone of Ohio. Gary is survived by his wife, Stephanie Schwing of Sugar Land, TX; mother, Wanda Schwing of Hamilton, OH; sister, Cindy Minton and her husband Tim of Hamilton, OH; nephew, Joshua Minton; and mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Meadville of Visalia, CA. Gary has extended family in the form of his golf and card group at Sweetwater Country Club: Mike Amerson, Joe Futrell, Richie Marzella, John Van De Wiele, Jimmie Hermes, Johnny Cook, Rudy Stegall, Mike Kimmel, and his best friend, partner, and former Marine, Rick Loyd of Sugar Land. He will be treasured and remembered with lots of entertaining stories by all his friends from over the years. Everyone who knew Gary will miss his leadership, his presence, his generosity, and his humor. He touched the lives of everyone he met and will leave a void in the lives of many people with his sudden and senseless death. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2011, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit), with the Rev. Marty Vershel, officiating. A reception will follow the service at Sweetwater Country Club, 4400 Palm Royale Blvd., Sugar Land, TX.
