One of the world’s biggest Clemson Tigers Football fans, Gerald Dean Hannon, went to “Tiger Heaven” on October 1, 2018. Gerald was born on May 5, 1934 to John Heyward Hannon and Inez Pittman and was the youngest of five children.
Gerald grew up in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. At 18 years old, Gerald “slipped off” to join the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli, Libya, which he claimed was the hottest place on earth during the day and the coldest place on earth at night.
When Gerald returned from Libya, he attended Clemson University where he tried out for the Clemson Tigers Football team. While he did not make the team, he loved the Clemson Tigers Football team his entire life.
Gerald began his career with Delta Air Lines in Houston in 1957. He was employed by Delta Air Lines for 35 years retiring in 1993.
Gerald spent his retirement at his beloved home in Forest Cove, Texas with frequent visits to Sugar Land, Texas to see his grandson Jack. He was a member of the Forest Cove Choraliers. Gerald loved his Forest Cove neighbors and he especially loved his big yard and many trees. He often sat outside just to watch the grass grow and the birds eat all the grapes from the vines in his back yard.
Gerald was an outstanding, funny and devoted father, son, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Gerald is survived by his two daughters, Theresa Marie Fabra and Sharon Tina Diamond, his son- in-law Steven Mark Diamond and the “apple of his eye,” his grandson Jack Hannon Diamond.
Go Tigers!!!
