On July 1, 2026, our hearts were forever changed as we said goodbye to our beloved wife, mother, and friend, Gillian Evans. Gillian was born in Trinidad and later moved to Brooklyn, New York, to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Little did she know that one of those daily walks and jogs would change both of our lives forever.
I first met Gillian outside the apartment building where I grew up in Brooklyn. I noticed this fly young woman who was always walking or jogging somewhere, so I kept shooting my shot. More often than not, she'd let me walk alongside her. During one of those walks, I found out she wasn't just getting in her exercise—she was making her way to church for VBS.
I'd walk with her all the way there, then turn around and head home. But one Sunday, I decided to walk inside with her instead. That decision changed my life. I kept coming back every Sunday, and I never left. Looking back now, I realize I thought I was following Gillian, but God was leading me the whole time.
Somewhere along the way, I looked at her and said, "I'm Going to marry you."
She laughed and said, "Yea Right."
She thought I was joking.
God already knew the answer.
Neither of us knew that those walks to church would become a lifetime of walking through life together.
Well... thirty-two years of marriage later, here we are.
We built a life together. We raised three amazing sons—Christian, Justin, and Ethan. We celebrated victories, weathered storms, laughed until we cried, and stood by each other through seasons that tested us in ways we never imagined.
Was our marriage perfect? No.
But it was real.
Through every season, one thing never changed: Gillian loved her family with everything she had. She loved me. She loved our boys. And we loved her with everything we had.
Gillian embodied the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. She lived her faith every day, served others with compassion through her work as a nurse, and carried herself with grace, strength, and quiet dignity. Caring for people wasn't simply what she did—it was who she was. Her love wasn't measured by words, but by countless acts of kindness, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She fought leukemia with remarkable courage and determination. Even in the hardest moments, she held on long enough to witness one of the moments she had prayed for—seeing our youngest son, Ethan, graduate from high school. She also found peace knowing there was peace in our home. Those gifts meant everything to her.
Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing her suffering has ended and that she is now in the presence of the Lord she faithfully walked toward all those years ago—the same Lord who used one walk to church to begin our story.
It's impossible to sum up thirty-two years in a few pages.
How do you describe your best friend...
your greatest supporter...
the mother of your children...
the woman who made a house feel like home?
You can't.
You simply thank God that He allowed your paths to cross.
The funny thing is, all those years ago, I thought I was just trying to get a date.
Instead, God gave me a wife.
He gave me a family.
He gave me a love story that lasted thirty-two years.
And while my heart is broken today, I wouldn't trade a single day of that journey.
To our sons—Christian, Justin, and Ethan—Your mother was so proud of the men you've become. Carry her kindness, her faith, her compassion, and her strength with you for the rest of your lives. That is how her legacy continues.
Gillian leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, perseverance, and family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Chris; her three beloved sons, Christian, Justin, and Ethan; and countless family members and friends whose lives were made better simply because they knew her.
To my beautiful wife...
Thank you for every walk.
Thank you for every jog.
Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you for saying, "Yea Right."
Until God brings us together again, I'll keep walking.
Only this time, you'll already be waiting at the destination.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." — Proverbs 31:28
