Grace was born in Sukabumi, Indonesia to Dr. and Mrs. Tien L. Yap, owners of a tea plantation, that exported teas all over the world.
Her parents were very keen on education and sent the three children overseas to study in high schools and universities.
Grace became a boarding student in the English DIoceasan Grils High School in Hong Kong where she learned English.
In summer of 1958, she came to the US, and enrolled in Wellesley College, Boston, MA, with a four year full scholarship

Grace met James at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where James was pursuing his Ph. D. in Micribiology. They were married in Summer of 1964. She and James had been married fifty one years.
Before retirement, she worked for many years at Shell Oil Co.,Houston, TX as Senior Computer Informationist in Environmental Health.
Grace suffered first stroke in Dec., 1999; but recovered partially. Grace suffered a second stroke in June,2001 and became severely disabled since.
Undergoing Rehab at TIRR since 2000, she has been under the excellent care of Dr. Gerard Franciso. Her PCP was Dr. Lillian Chan.
Grace had been cared for at home by 4 devoted caregivers and husband 24/7, during the last 14-15 years. She had led a dignified quality life.
She was compassionate to cats while she enjoyed good health;
Taking in wounded, abandoned cats to the Vets and nursed them to health for ten years.
She enjoyed arts and music, reading and travel when she was healthy.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 6, 2015, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land ( Williams Trace Exit). Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 7, 2015, in The Morrow Chapel at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, with a reception immediately following.
