Grace Bennett Wallace was born in El Paso, Texas on December 22, 1934, to Dr. J. Travis and Grace Bennett where she grew up with her big brother and little sister. After completing high school, she attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she became a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and received her degree. After graduation from college, she moved to Houston, Texas and became a staff dietitian at the Veterans Administration hospital after completing her internship there. Grace met the love of her life, Lew Arthur Wallace, at the Veterans Administration Hospital where he worked and who she married on December 22, 1959, in El Paso, Texas. They spent just over 34 years as a married couple until Lew passed away in March of 1994. They raised their children in a very loving home beginning in Houston, Texas, but later moved to the Quail Valley Subdivision in Missouri City, Texas where she remained until December 2021.
Grace Wallace thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority where she and Lew made lifelong friends, and Grace more recently became an honorary member. Grace and Lew enjoyed entertaining and were involved for many years in a dinner club group.
As a widow, Grace became a member of the Southminster Presbyterian Church where her daughter and family were members. Grace joined their Loving Friends widow group where she made new friends and received the support she needed.
Grace was a fighter and a cancer survivor. She had a stroke in January of 2020 which caused her to have a form of dementia with short-term memory loss. She remained living alone in her Senior Living Apartment with additional care and assistance. On January 2, 2022, she moved to a Personal Care Home in Richmond, Texas so that she could receive 24/7 care as recommended by her doctor.
On July 14, 2022, at 87 years of age, Grace peacefully took her final breath to join the love of her life in heaven. Grace is survived by her son, David Wallace, and his fiancée, Jolene; her daughter, Dawn Currie, her husband, Stan; three grandchildren, Chad Currie and wife Susan, Taylor Currie, and Brett Currie; great granddaughter and namesake, Chandler Grace Currie, with another one on the way; along with several nieces and nephews (Deborah Bennett, Robert Notley, Tiffany Notley Cain, Matthew Notley, Courtney Joyner, and Jaclyn Moore) and their families.
