

Greg was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, TX. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1963 and from Texas Christian University School of Science and Engineering in 1968. During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Army. After discharge he returned to Texas and obtained his MBA from Texas Tech University. Greg's first job was at Texas Instruments in Dallas. In 1975, he returned to Houston where he worked as a geologist and financial analyst at Petty Ray Geophysical, and later as financial analyst and stockbroker for several firms including Underwood Neuhaus, Lovett Mitchell Webb, and SunTrust Equitable Securities. He was a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Public Accountant. After retirement he joined his wife, Joan Stoerner M.D., at Sugar Land Pediatrics as the office administrator and business manager.
Predeceased are his parents Perry Lee Stoerner and Ima Jean Gregory Stoerner. Greg leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Joan Whitaker Stoerner, his son Jeffrey Lee Stoerner of Boulder, Colorado, his daughter Leslie Stoerner Poroo, son- in-law Mike Poroo of Sugar Land, sister Suzanne Stoerner Reis, her husband Larry Reis of Missouri City, and many friends who enriched his life.
Greg lived life well with his friends and family. He loved playing golf with his long time friends and taught his son and daughter the love of the game. He enjoyed fishing on Galveston Bay and on the Frying Pan River in Basalt, Colorado. Music, history, visiting bookstores, and reading were also prime interests. Most of all, he loved time with his family and friends. He was a long time supporter of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Houston Pops Symphony, and the TCU scholarship fund.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, TX. Burial will follow at Morton Cemetery, 401 North Second Street, Richmond. TX. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held nearby for family and friends at The Richmond House, 314 South Ninth Street, Richmond.
