At 102 years old, Isabella Frances Hastie went to heaven after a battle with Covid pneumonia. She was known to many of her grandchildren as GiGi. She lived a long and full life. She was blessed with 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren. She grew up as a migrant worker picking cotton with her family to survive during the Great Depression. She owned only one red dress for many years. Her work ethic and strong will persisted throughout her life. She was full of love and always enjoyed taking her grandchildren shopping to her favorite store, Dillard’s. Her family will miss her, but will always remember the impact she had. We are so glad she is finally at peace!
Isabella Frances Taylor was born in Baldwin, MI in 1921 to John Taylor II and Sarah Ann Smith Taylor. She grew up in Baldwin but settled in Wichita, Kansas in 1953, where she was employed by the Boeing Aircraft Company. She loved her job there in shipping and inspection, and during her tenure there she received many exceptional performance awards and quality step increases. She was the first woman inspector to achieve the rank of “Lead Man”, thus they had to change her title to “Lead Woman" She was highly capable, and valued by her work colleagues. She took seriously her job as inspector, and when parts came through that were not technically perfect, she had no qualms about rejecting them, saying, “Don’t you realize that peoples’ lives depend on the accuracy of your work?!
We remember how much she emphasized the importance of “doing your best” in everything, whether it was at school, work, or family life. She always kept a positive outlook, and taught her girls to do likewise. She was so kind, and caring, and helped others who needed encouragement. She loved her family, and sacrificed much to help them. I don’t ever remember her complaining about her long work days, or being tired. She loved her LORD Jesus, and knew that He had died for our sins on the cross. We will miss her terribly, but rest in the peace of knowing that she is with THE LORD above, and that we will see her in heaven one day.
Isabella is preceded in death by her parents; John Taylor II and Sarah Ann Smith Taylor, her husband; of 32 years, William Hastie, her sisters; Anna Mae Sliter and Louise Agnes Scroggins, and a brother; John Thomas Taylor III, and granddaughter; Karen Lynn Chandler.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Eugenia Jeanette Platt (Jerry Chandler), and Roberta Louise Platt (Earl Doyle), her Grandchildren; Cheri Denise Chandler (Richard Robison), Tammy Gail Chandler (Douglas Hunt), Jeffrey Scott Chandler (Stephanie), Benjamin Howard Doyle (Mariana Walsh), Rachel Marie Doyle (Niklaus DelFavero), and Daniel Doyle (Jennifer Job). GiGi is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
