

Jacqueline Marie Layer, a beloved and cherished individual, passed away on August 12, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on October 11, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Jacqueline was a compassionate and devoted woman who touched the lives of many.
Jacqueline's early life in Chicago laid the foundation for her future endeavors. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois, she met the love of her life, Bruce. Their marriage was a testament to their faithful and patient partnership, and they had just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on August 10th.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Jacqueline and Bruce moved to Texas, where she earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Houston. Her career began with teaching mathematics, and she later became a dedicated middle school counselor, known for her loving and selfless nature.
Jacqueline and Bruce raised two daughters, Lindsey and Lauren, who have become accomplished individuals. Lindsey received her MBA from Duke University and works in biopharmaceutical consulting in New Jersey. Lauren received her MD at UTMB and practices as a radiation oncology physician at MD Anderson. Jacqueline was a full-time mother who skillfully balanced her family life with a full-time career.
Jacqueline's gentle and hard-working spirit extended to her personal interests and hobbies. She was an avid bridge player, participating in numerous card groups, and enjoyed watching movies and TV. Her favorite colors were pink, purple, turquoise, glitter, and all things bedazzled, reflecting her vibrant personality.
Jacqueline was diagnosed on Mother’s Day 2022 with a rare cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. With the help of MD Anderson’s expertise, she fought a courageous battle and lived years beyond her expected survival. We are forever grateful to MD Anderson for the compassionate care they provided. She is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Grace DePinto. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Layer, daughters, Lindsey Swope and Lauren (Ray “Cody” III) Mayo, and brothers, Joseph (Helen) DePinto and Vincent (Kim) DePinto. She was a proud “Nonna” to 5 grandchildren, Scarlett, Ray “Cody” IV, Sawyer, Mark and Luke.
Jacqueline Marie Layer's legacy of love and dedication will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a beacon of generosity and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on her family and community.
