James Lawrence Bailey

James Lawrence Bailey, was born on October 15, 1932, in Oak Park Illinois, he passed away August 21, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Murray Sterling Bailey and Faye Lorraine Redford Bailey.

Jim is survived by his Husband Dennis M. McKillip, his Children Kevin (Cathy) Bailey, Scott (Keli) Bailey, and Laura (Jeff) Pitts. And his Brother Robert Bailey. Seven Grandchildren, seven Great Grandchildren, three Nieces, and extended family.

Jim graduated from Fenwick Catholic High School in Oak Park Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University. Jim Studied Chemistry at the University of California Los Angeles, he then went on to De Paul University where he received his Juris Doctor degree to study Law.

Jim was employed by Nalco Chemical Company throughout the sixties. In the early seventies, he moved to Houston, Texas where he was employed by Texaco as Senior Patent Counsel. Jim retired from Chevron/Texaco in 2000 and spent two years doing contract work after retirement.

Jim loved to travel. He loved good food and Swiss chocolates. A world traveler, Jim was always ready to pack a bag and head off on another adventure. Just about every sport interested Jim but his passion was Professional Tennis. Jim attended most of the ATP major tennis tournaments and loved the Tennis Channel. He loved golf and baseball. Jim was also involved in obedience training, having shown several dogs at one time. In later years the dogs in his family life were cherished pets and his last dog was his and Dennis’ beloved Cissy who preceded him in death in February 2025.

A visitation will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, located at 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478, on September 2, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A vigil service will take place at the same location on September 2, 2025, at 6:15 pm.

The funeral mass will be conducted at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479, on September 3, 2025, at 10:00 am.
