Janice Culpepper Shult born in Mexia, Texas on July 3, 1938, the daughter of Carl and Lois Culpepper, passed away on December 2, 2020 at home, in Missouri City, with family by her side. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judy Lewis, her brother Randy Culpepper, her sister-in-law Peggy Culpepper, her niece Sheri Burnett and nephew Paul Valentine. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Richard Shult; her daughter, Tracy McKernan and husband Joe; granddaughter Bailey McKernan; and Dick’s children, Jerry Shult and his sons Dustin & Logan, and Christina Rogers and her sons Jordan & Jonathan. Jan is also survived by her nieces Jody Valentine and Amy Harrott; nephew Roy Burnett, great-nieces Wendi, Tonya, Ashley, Sydney; great-nephews Todd and Rudy; and many cousins.
Jan worked for over 23 years at Missouri City Police Department, in many positions from dispatcher to Office Administrator. Both the police and fire departments were like a second family to her where she made so many lifelong friendships. She supported the city and its services whenever she could and always loved helping the Missouri City Police & Fire Auxiliary raise money for their annual benefits.
Through the years she had many hobbies: she was an excellent cook, loved crossword puzzles, painted and had a very green thumb. For years, she and Dick would relax at the beach or bay house and fish some when they had a chance. She really enjoyed spoiling her dog, Jake.
Her greatest passions were visiting with friends and spending time with family…she will be greatly missed.
A celebration for Jan’s life will be announced at a later date. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Jan Shult’s name to the nonprofit East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry - Food Pantry (Click on "Donate Now"):
