

Born in Gibbon, Oklahoma on June 12, 1932 to Argle and Trecie (Webb) Lacy. Joe and his brother Lyle were raised in Phillips, Texas. Joe attended Phillips High School, Frank Phillips Junior College, Texas Christian University (TCU) and Brite Divinity School (at TCU).
Joe married Barbara Allen on November 21, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas. Joe served many small community churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma while attending TCU and Brite. After graduation with a Masters in Divinity, he and Barbara moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to begin their career in service to our Lord. He served at Kings Highway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as Associate Minister, where he worked alongside his lifelong mentor Dr. William E. (Bill) Wright. He later served as the Senior Minister at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dumas, Texas; First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Chickasha, Oklahoma; First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and finally Bethany Christian Church in Houston, Texas where he retired after a long and prosperous career.
Joe enjoyed needlepoint, reading, movies, spending time with his wife, friends and family, and of course, cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs.
Reverend Lacy is survived by his devoted and loving wife Barbara of 63 years; Brother Lyle Lacy and his wife Glenda of Amarillo, Texas; sons William (Bill) Lacy and his wife Patti of Katy, Texas, and Terrance (Terry) Lacy and his wife Martine of Wooster, Ohio. Grandchildren Carolyn Collins and her husband Chase of Katy, Texas; Madeleine Lacy of Aurora, Colorado; Vivienne Lacy of Lubbock, Texas; Victoria Russell and her husband Kirby, of Katy, Texas; Katie Wagner and her husband Michael of Katy, TX and Jonathan Letter of Katy, TX. He also had several Great Grandchildren, Kaylin, Lillian, Ella Grace, Joanna and Olivia Lee.
There will be no public service. Please make donations to Retired Ministers Fund or the Pension Fund for the Christian Church (PO BOX 625, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206) or Bethany Christian Church (3223 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77098).
Reverend Lacy ended each worship service with the same benediction, one that was especially meaningful to him and which was his special message of God’s encouragement and promise.
“And now as you go forth from these walls, leave here your sorrows and your cares. In their stead, take Faith, Hope and Love, these three, for they are thine. And in your hearts great living altars raise, and meet Him there in silent hours of prayer, and live at last with Him forevermore”
