John was born on July 13, 1935, to Otis and Fanny Eudora Jones. He grew up in Duke, Oklahoma, a place that always held a special place in his heart.
A proud United States Marine, John honorably served his country, including time stationed aboard the USS Oriskany. His service was a source of lifelong pride, and he carried the values of loyalty, dedication, and commitment throughout his life.
Following his military service, John built a successful 37-year career with Gulf Oil and Chevron. He was known for his strong work ethic, his ability to connect with people, and the friendships he made along the way.
On October 19, 1957, John married the love of his life, Wilma. Together, they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage, celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary just one day before his passing. Their marriage was built on love, faith, commitment, and a lifetime of memories.
John had an incredible sense of humor and a personality that made people feel welcome. He loved being around others, sharing stories, laughing, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed golf, fishing, deer hunting, playing poker, and spending time with family and friends. He also had a lifelong love of the water. The family’s lake house on Lake Livingston was a special place where countless memories were made and time together was treasured.
Above all, John loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took great pride in the family he and Wilma built together. His kindness, humor, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
John’s Christian faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Bible study. His faith provided strength and guidance throughout his life and gave him the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Jones; his sons, Kevin Jones and Mark Jones (Sarah); his five grandchildren, Lauren, Katelyn, Emilie, Nathan, and Rachel; and his great-grandson, Jett Austin Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Opal Marsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Fanny Eudora Jones, and his siblings Faye Clark, Mary Massey, Tom Jones, Lucille Wright, and Dodie Burt.
John leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories, laughter, love, and a legacy of faith and family that will continue for generations.
While we will miss him dearly, we find peace in knowing that this is not goodbye, but simply until we meet again in Heaven.
Semper Fi, John. Rest in peace.
