

Jon Antone Mitchell, a native of Baytown, Texas, passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 68. Jon was born on September 19, 1956, and resided in Missouri City, Texas. He leaves behind a rich legacy intertwined with family, professional accomplishments, and a profound engagement with his passions.
Growing up in Baytown, Texas, Jon pursued an education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University in 1982, followed by an MBA from St. Edwards University in 1991. He achieved his DDS from UT Health Houston School of Dentistry in 1995, marking a significant milestone in his journey of lifelong learning.
Jon served honorably as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1975 to 1976. He later pursued a career as a dentist. A pioneering spirit, Jon became one of the first in Texas to achieve the highest certification in high-powered rocketry, an accolade that highlighted his dedication and expertise in the field.
Married to Terri Dulin Mitchell for 37 loving years, their journey began with a blind date that blossomed into a life rich with memories and love. Together, they raised four children: daughter Kirsten N. Mitchell; and sons Ian A. Mitchell, Trevor N. Mitchell, and William R. Mitchell.
Jon's interests were as diverse as they were deep. His passion for amateur rocketry, kindled during middle school, was profound. He held a love for a wide variety of music genres, spanning opera to The Beatles, jazz, and classical. His fascination with archaeology led him to participate in digs in Israel during and after college, reflecting a sustained interest in the Near East. Additionally, he enjoyed fishing, golf, bicycling, chess, and performing illusion-style magic.
Jon was an active member of his community, contributing his time and talents to organizations such as the Tripoli Rocketry Association, Tripoli Houston Rocket Club, NASA Houston Rocket Club, Omicron Kappa Epsilon-Mu Mu Chapter, and St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church.
Surviving Jon is his beloved wife, Terri Mitchell; his cherished children, Kirsten Mitchell, Ian Mitchell, Trevor Mitchell, and William Mitchell; his sisters Ginny Compton, Kelly Pechal, Anna Andrews, and Pat Altenburg (Robert); his brothers Stanley Mitchell, Philip Mitchell, David Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Paul Mitchell (Martha), Tim Mitchell (Carmen), and Denis Mitchell (Nora). He is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Higgins Mitchell and Louis Sayres Mitchell, Sr, and his brothers Louis Mitchell, Jr. and Ronald Mitchell.
A funeral service will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church in Missouri City, Texas, on September 27, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Following the service, a reception will take place at The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek in Sugar Land, Texas, at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Tripoli Houston Rocket Club or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, reflecting Jon's enduring passions and his commitment to both science and community welfare.
