Jose Oscar Tinio Nable, 70, of Richmond, Texas, passed away on September 13, 2026. Born October 3, 1955, Oscar will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew and loved him.
Oscar arrived in the United States in 1979, when his mother was ill with cancer and sought treatment at the Houston Medical Center. From those early days forward, he met life with steady courage and a willingness to step into the unknown—qualities that remained with him throughout the years.
In 1985, Oscar’s older brother, Chip, introduced him to Cres, beginning a devoted partnership that would shape the rest of his life. Oscar and Cres were married on Christmas Eve of 1987 in Lake Tahoe, California, in a simple and unforgettable ceremony—just Oscar, Cres, and the pastor of a chapel open 24 hours for weddings. Their shared determination and vision soon took form in August of 1998, when they opened Pan American Mortgage Corporation, a true labor of love and the realization of a dream they built together.
Oscar and Cres also shared a love of travel, finding joy in cruises and cross-country drives. They drove from Houston to San Francisco and on to Lake Tahoe when they married, a fitting reflection of Oscar’s adventurous spirit and the life they embraced side by side.
Oscar’s interests revealed a thoughtful eye and a generous heart. He loved animals—especially cats, dogs, and birds—and for many years he quietly cared for stray cats, feeding them nightly in the office garage since 2000. He loved cars and enjoyed watching car racing, was skilled at playing billiards, and found personal satisfaction in drawing, with a natural sense for color, materials, and shape. Music was another steady companion, and Oscar especially enjoyed jazz, including artists such as George Benson and Anita Baker, among many others.
In recent years, Oscar and Cres were building a country home in Cres’ hometown in the Philippines, designed according to Oscar’s own plans. The turnover was expected in June, but Oscar became ill. It is a sorrow that he will not be able to see the home completed in the way he had envisioned and worked toward with such care.
Oscar’s life was marked not only by love and dedication, but also by remarkable bravery in the face of illness. A cancer survivor, he was diagnosed in 2010 and underwent chemotherapy and radiation at the medical center, entering remission thereafter. He later fought a long and difficult battle with COPD, which caused his right lung to collapse. He spent three months in the ICU, enduring profound hardship, yet continuing to fight until his heart gave out.
Cres and family extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Oscar’s medical team at St. Luke’s Sugar Land, Baylor St. Luke’s, and Kindred Hospital Sugar Land. Along the way, Oscar formed meaningful connections, including a special friendship with a nurse, Gavin, at Baylor St. Luke’s, who called Oscar his buddy.
Oscar had planned to retire in a few months. Though his life was cut short, he leaves behind a wife who loves him dearly and will always love him, now and forever. He also leaves behind many friends, and the legacy of a life that was full and wonderful—one defined by devotion, quiet generosity, and the lasting ways he was cherished.
