Julia Joanne Moore

January 16, 1932November 8, 2018

Julie Joanne (née DeForest) Moore passed away peacefully in Richmond, Texas on November 7, 2018 at the age of 86. Joanne was born on January 16, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri and hit the jackpot when she was quickly adopted by Julia and Henry DeForest. After growing up as an only child in Kansas City, Joanne married and created the best part of her life – her family - in San Francisco, Reno and Dallas. In 1965 she moved permanently to Houston, Texas and planted her roots. She is survived by her six children: Julie Swinchatt, Carrie Brooks, Nancy Horn, Tim and wife Jeannette Moore, David and wife Lisa Moore and Michael Moore. She is survived by 12 grandchildren: Jennifer, Melissa, Allison, Tana, Drew, Michelle, Michael, Mallory, Reagan, Sydney, Cassidy and Ryan. She is survived by her 7 great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Julia, Hart, Hayes, Sophia, Rowdy and Savannah. Joanne lived a full life surrounded by family and friends. She was very active in her children and grandchildren’s lives and loved attending all sporting, dancing and theatre events. She was so involved she became the first female to serve on the Board of the Westbury Little League. Every conversation with her included the question “how are the kids?” and she enveloped every detail of pride, sorrow, joy and amusement that followed. In addition, she had a long career at Texas Iron Works and retired with a well-attended celebration. Joanne was a devout Catholic and relished her involvement at both St. Thomas More and St. Laurence Parish. She enjoyed many activities while she lived at Brookdale Senior Living Center; such as line dancing, cafeteria greeter and social butterfly. Joanne loved to dance and could be seen singing and shuffling to any happy tune. She was the life of the party and lit up every room she entered. Although she stood just shy of 5’ her personality was as big as Texas. No truer statement could be made than the words from one of her most recent nurses - “things are going to be boring around here without Joanne!” She is already missed very deeply by everyone that knew and loved her.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:30am November 16, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft St., Houston 77096. An Internment ceremony will follow at 12:30pm at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer, Houston 77077. Tributes and/or word of condolence can be left at

We knew Mrs. Moore as a parent at Westbury National Little League. Our son, Robbie, was on the team with David and Michael the last two years in the league. She never missed a game and was very supportive of the team. Our thoughts and prayers go to David, Michael and the other family members.

So sorry to hear about Joanne's passing. As former HR director, we worked together for many years at TIW and I have many found memories of them. I am out of town and sorry to have missed attending the service.
