Katherine Renee Ellis March 29th, 1967- May 29th, 2021

Katherine Renee Ellis, 54, passed away unexpectedly with her husband by her side on Saturday May 29th, 2021. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas D. and Jewell Cain, John and Altha Sikes and her mother and father-in-law Don and Jean Ellis. She is survived by her beloved husband, Don S. Ellis, her parents Thomas G. and Frances Cain, her children and stepchildren, Ryan Powell (Ashley), Justin Powell (Eunice), Shaina Schwartz (Chad), Kirby Ellis, Alexis Ellis, and Chance Ellis and her siblings Tracy Klander (Carl), Jerry Cain (Roberta), and Sally Dunn (Trey), as well as her grandchildren, Brynlee and Colton Schwartz and several nieces, nephews and family friends.

Kathy, as her family and friends liked to call her, was born in Houston, Texas which she proudly made known by wearing the jerseys of every Houston sports team! She was an avid sports fan, fisher, and bowler. She found her love for fishing in her younger years while spending time with her family at the pink houseboat by the bay. She spent her summers enjoying many outdoor activities - from playing football with the boys to camping, fishing and bike riding.

Kathy’s love for crawfish and horseshoes began in 1980 when her family moved to Conroe. Kathy and her brother Jerry were the ultimate duo when it came to playing horseshoes. Kathy graduated from Conroe High School in 1985 and immediately went to work for Montgomery County Tax Office. She had a great work ethic and took a lot of pride in her 31-year career in government work. In 1993, she gave birth to her twin boys, Ryan & Justin. They enjoyed spending time together doing puzzles, playing video games and attending sporting events; being a “boy mom” came natural to her.

Kathy volunteered on many different committees for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Rodeo season was always her favorite time of year where she enjoyed all things rodeo, but her favorite part was the dancing. During a Pat Green performance at the committee members only club a man caught her eye dancing rather well and she proceeded to walk up to him, grab his hand, and say “now it’s my turn”. Little did she know this man would end up being her husband 5 years later.

After meeting Don, she found a new passion and hobby, bowling. Don and she would travel the country attending different bowling tournaments and conventions. She loved and supported Don’s passion for bowling and his family business. She was always happy to lend a helping hand whenever needed and was patient and understanding of his crazy night and weekend work schedule.

She and Don married in 2014, which added 4 more children and many other family members to her already busy life. Kathy and Don spent most of their time traveling, fishing, and of course- enjoying all the crawfish they could eat! One of Kathy’s favorite trips was their visit to Italy in 2018 and their fishing trip to Cabo in 2015 where they caught mahi mahi. Kathy enjoyed living a well-rounded life and spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

A visitation will be held at The Settegast- Kopf Funeral Home at Sugar Creek on Monday, June 7th from 5pm-8pm with a Memorial Service to take place at the same location on Tuesday, June 8th at 11am. A reception at Sugar Creek Country Club will follow.

Kathy was my supervisor at City of La Porte in the Utility Billing/Tax Dept. In fact she was one of the main ones that hired me. I had the pleasure of working with her for 17 years. She had very strong work ethics.
She was always so helpful, patient, kind and very knowledgeable. She was always ready to assist when help was needed. She was known to most of us as KP before she married Don . I am very saddened to learn of the loss for her entire Family. Please accept my deepest condolences to her Husband, Children, Family and Friends.

Kathy and I met in 1995 when she joined our team at the City of La Porte. This was the beginning of a long, happy friendship that I hoped would never end. Rest easy KP, I will miss you very much. Prayers for your family.
