

Laurence (known to others as Larry) was born to Charles and Dorothy Miller (St. John) in Tartagal, Argentina on June 27, 1939.
Growing up Scarsdale, New York, Larry attended Iona Preparatory School graduating in 1956. His college career took him to Notre Dame University, where he joined the ROTC while he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Geology. After graduating in 1960, he was stationed in Neu Ulm, Germany as a 1st Lieutenant. After fulfilling his three year commitment, he continued his education at the University of Nebraska for graduate school where he obtained his Master of Science in Geology in 1966.
From 1966-1967, Larry worked for Humble Oil in Rosenberg, TX, then joined Esso Libya in Tripoli, Libya where they lived from 1967-1971. After Libya, Larry joined Marathon Oil Company sending the family to Findlay, Ohio from 1971-1976. After Ohio, he was transferred to London, England from 1977-1980. Larry then accepted a transfer to Tunis, Tunisia where he opened the Tunis office, living in Tunisia twice from 1980-1982 and 1984-1991. In 1991, Larry was in charge of discovering a large well named Ezzaouia yielding 21,000 barrels per day or “first oil” for Marathon in that region. Thereafter, he was transferred to London, England again from 1991-1995. In June of 1995, Larry and family moved back to the United States, settling in Sugar Land TX. Larry loved his work, his travels and living overseas. He was proud to be an American in every way. He retired in the fall of 1999. In retirement, Larry loved watching the Houston Astros, Notre Dame football and spending time with his family. On Saturdays, Larry marshalled at Greatwood golf course.
Larry is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Barbara Miller (Divney); his three children, Colleen St. John Dalton (Scott) of Huntsville, AL, Charles Thomas Miller II (Shari) of Huntsville, AL and Anne-Marie St. John Miller of Sugar Land, TX; his grandchildren Laura St. John Harris (Kade) of Huntsville, AL, and Erin Elizabeth Bowman (Matthew). Larry was also blessed with his four great-granddaughters, Lillian, Madeline, Olivia, and Emma. He also loved and gave the best scratches to his granddogs, Darby and Huxley.
He is now 'at ease'.
