Mrs. Bussells attended Matthews High School and Lenoir Rhyne College. She married William E. Bussells, Jr. of Kilmarnock, VA, a decorated U.S. Army Air Corps pilot in the Indochina Theater of WWII. After the war they settled in coastal Virginia, residing in Newport News, VA at the time of the death of her husband ten days before her fortieth birthday. Returning to her roots in Matthews, NC, she reared her two children close to her childhood home and family as she worked at Charlotte Pipe. Amity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte became her church home where she sang in the choir and later served as an Elder. Beginning in her seventies, she painted, beautifully and prolifically. Still an avid reader and singer, she moved to Sugar Land in 2007. Here, she became active at Christ United Methodist Church, participating in the Jubilee Class, Chancel Choir, Book Club, and Bible Study. She will be known for her quiet strength and that winning smile.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14th at Christ United Methodist Church (3300 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land). The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Gathering Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be directed to the Older Adult Ministry or Music Ministry at Christ United Methodist Church, or to Meals on Wheels or Family Promise via the Church.
