Eulogy for Lucille Moulton

It is said that when a flock of geese are migrating, they normally fly in a V-like formation with the strongest at the front and weaker ones at the back. The ones at the back will benefit from the aerodynamic meaning they will experience less resistance to air flow and thus will enable them to endure the journey. If it wasn’t for this strategy that was seemingly developed by these birds, their journey would almost be impossible.

It is therefore fair to make the assertion that our dearly beloved Lus was leading the pack, giving support and creating a path for all of us to emulate. It must be noted that most of us who have migrated here, did so as a result of her assistance. Recently we have all come to realize that our golden goose was slowly slipping to the back of the pack, and as fate would have it she was able to garner the support of her family and loved ones. This can be attributed to the host of good deeds she had sown over the years, compelling all of us to rally and care for her during the later stage of her life.

Lucille Silena Moulton (nee Smith) affectionately called Lus was born to Wesley and May Smith in Warminster District, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on January 23, 1950. She was the third child to be born during the matrimony of her parents. Lucille was of a set of twins, but unfortunately her sister Nancy died at birth, and this may have motivated her to live the way she did (living for both persons).

She attended Austin and Russell All Age School for her Elementary Education and later attended the St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) from 1963-1967. After graduation, she taught at Austin All age for one year.

She then attended the University of the West Indies School of Nursing in Kingston Jamaica from 1969-1972. It was during this time she caught the eyes of her dearly beloved Kelvin S Moulton. It was obvious for all to witness that Kelvin was a very lucky man, he had just won himself a combo (Beauty with Brains). It was from here on that these two would be inseparable.

Her further quest for knowledge and higher learning brought her across the pond to England in 1973 where she studied midwifery for two years. After completion she later returned to Jamaica to be with the love of her life while she worked at the University Hospital of the West Indies. During this period the love between them grew stronger where Kelvin proposed and they tied the knot in 1977.

With a strong desire to achieve, she migrated to the United States in 1979 whereby she was joined by her husband a few months later.

Lucille achieved her Masters’ Degree, and was employed to the Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas. Lucille and Kelvin settled together in Beaumont Texas.

In 1982 their union became fruitful with the birth of their son Christopher Moulton. Lucille was a determined, self-driven and highly motivated individual and for this was promoted from Nurse, to Supervisor, and later Nurse Manager. Lucille eventually resigned her position in 2014, after some 35 years of dedicated service to the community.

It must be remembered that she was a God-fearing person who both attended Lakewood Church and Holy Cross Episcopal Church and fortunately for her was able to give her life to Christ before departing.

Lucille was a vibrant individual who loved to travel , she and her family would normally take many trips abroad for vacation purposes. She was a family-oriented person who was always communicating with her relatives and friends .

Our fondest memory of her was when she visited us in Jamaica, she would bring gifts for all of us, even though we were great in number, no one would leave her home empty handed. She was indeed our Santa Clause. (OH, how we wish, there were more Aunt Lus in the family back then).

She was a very engaging individual who was always encouraging us to study our books to become successful in our endeavors. Some of the main things we are going to miss about her are the phone text messages she would normally send on special occasions like Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Mother’s, and Father’s Day just to name a few. Despite her sickness that was seemingly taking a toll on her body, she continued to remain positive and would normally suggest that she would be alright. It turned out to be a promise she was unable to keep.

She had a special love for her dog Macey who sadly passed a few months ago. It is said that dogs have supernatural behavior to sense death before it happens and probably this may be the reason why it too died from a broken heart.

It may be no coincidence that it would be on August 27th 2022, the very day of her interment , that Lucille would have celebrated her 45th Wedding Anniversary.

Lucille is survived by her Husband Kelvin Moulton a Real Estate Broker who holds a Masters and PHD in Public Administration, a very hilarious and charismatic character who always have a lot of stories to share. Not sure if they were all accurate but were all funny, nevertheless.

Her one and only son Christopher Moulton the Apple of her eye.

She is also survived by a whole host of siblings [Seville(Min), Ispa (Blossom), Lenorth(Ucal), Owen, Eda, Earl, Orette, Norma(Jean), and Carol; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Even though we have all gathered here today to bid farewell to our dearly beloved Lus, her memory will never fade, as her legacy will always live on.

Like a comet blazing across the evening sky, gone too soon!!

Like a castle built upon a sandy beach, gone too soon!!!

Like a perfect flower that is just beyond your reach, gone too soon!!!

Like a wave that ripple across the water surface and dissipates, gone too soon!!!

Like a moment that was here to be enjoyed, gone too soon!!

An inspiration that has touched and captivated all of us, gone too soon!!

Like a lit candle that was burning brightly in the dark, gone too soon!!

72 years, 6 months ,7 days, GONE TOO SOON!!!

You were loved

You did love

In fact, you are the true definition of love.

A visitation for Lucille will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A graveside service will occur Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery, 9040 FM 359 Road, Richmond, TX 77406. A repast will occur Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478.

Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Moulton, Victor Nembhard, Marcel Smith, Steve Smith, Hakeem Grant and Basil Moulton.
