Remembrance – from Susanna Tesh:

Thank you Grandma Lucy
For every
Delicious biscuit, cake, pie and cookie you baked
For every
Halloween costume or matching outfit you sewed
For every
Baby blanket and Christmas ornament you crocheted
For every
Bruise you iced and scrape you protected
For every
Place we traveled together—all seven of us in the big blue van
For every
Trip to the lake and every
fish we caught with you
For every
Tree you let us climb and
Sprinkler you let us run through
For every
Rule you let us break and every
Rule you did not let us break
For every word of encouragement
And argument you settled between three grand kids who love you very much.
Thanks for every smile you shined upon your 8 great grandkids who adore you and have you to look up to and and your stories to pass on.
Grandma, Your devotion to your family was as solid as your word. Your love of a simple life full of simple pleasures is a lesson for us all. Thanks for that.
Most of all, thank you for giving us our mom. You raised the kindest most beautiful woman I know and you were the world to her.
Say hi to Grandad. I believe y’all are fishing right now, and later you’ll fry some catfish, cornbread and okra for dinner. You’ll sip sweet tea on the back porch. That’s the kind of peace you both deserve.

Reading – from Lesley Tesh:

A Wife, a Mother, a Grandma too

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the tie has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.

Prayer for Lucy Simpson:

Below is the prayer that concluded the services for the funeral of this wonderful woman.

Let us offer a prayer of gratitude for the long and wonderful life of Lucy Perkinson Simpson, our mother, our grandmother, our great grandmother.
We pray today that the spirit of this quiet, strong, courageous woman lives on in all of us and beyond.
That we seek to serve our families with love and support without asking why
That we rejoice in the gift of communion with one another and breaking bread together
That we keep our friendships alive and stay present for them in all of their trials
That we work with our hands and build beautiful, comforting things
That we heal hurts and dry tears with love and listening
That we revel in the beauty of nature and the thrill and peace it can bring
That we are tough and weather the tests that life brings with grace and quiet resolve
That we laugh until tears come, as they only can when laughter is with friends
That we love, deeply and fully, and we honor our love with courage and action

For this fiercely loving spirit that we commend into the hereafter
Who has touched all of our lives and made us better for it
May she find peace and reunion at last with all those she loved and outlived
Her journey has been a long and beautiful, and we are all deeply grateful for the time we had with her.
We ask that her spirit be released to fly with the angels.
