It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Ellen Mohr, of Sugar Land, TX, who left us peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Surrounded by her family, Margie departed this world leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and unwavering strength.
Early Life and Family
Margaret was born on June 8, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, the cherished daughter of Margaret Ellen Marshall and Thomas Donahue Lawrence. From a young age, she embodied resilience, compassion, and generosity—values that became the cornerstones of her life. Following the passing of her father, Margie, her sister Shirley, and her brother Donnie were raised by their devoted older half-sister, Dorothy Sue Pratt.
Marriage and Adventures
In 1959, Margie married the love of her life, Eugene Thomas Mohr. As an Air Force wife, she traveled extensively, embracing new places and experiences with her signature adventurous spirit. Together, Margie and Eugene raised three children—Laura Lynne, Thomas Barthel (“Beau”), and Robert Earl—who will forever cherish her memory and the adventures they shared.
Making a Home in Houston
In 1970, Margie and her sister Shirley bravely piled all the children into their car and journeyed to Houston, TX. It was in Houston where Margie truly made her mark, nurturing her family and establishing deep roots in the community. Margie became a dedicated restaurant professional, initially working at Don’s Seafood on South Post Oak, and later serving as General Manager for over 24 years at Jimmy G’s Cajun Seafood in North Houston. Her commitment to her work, colleagues, and customers was unwavering, and she touched countless lives with her warmth and hospitality. Margie was known for her tireless work ethic, integrity, and her genuine desire to help others whenever she could.
Passions and Pastimes
Margie’s creativity and energy extended well beyond her professional life. She was an avid quilter, crafting beautiful keepsakes for family and friends. Her passion for decoration was evident in both her home and her workplace, where she spared no expense or effort in making every space welcoming and festive. Traveling was perhaps her greatest love—she delighted in taking her children on “adventures,” creating cherished memories on the open road. Annual road trips with her sister Shirley to visit family in St. Louis were especially dear to her, reflecting her zest for life and her free spirit—a legacy of adventure that lives on in the generations that follow.
Devotion to Family and Friends
Margie’s greatest joy was her family and her friends. She cherished every moment with her sister, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fiercely loyal and devoted, she was always there for those she loved—though she was never afraid to keep everyone in line with a single arched eyebrow. Her presence, guidance, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Though Margie’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in everything we do.
Remembering and Honoring Margaret
Margie is now reunited with her youngest son, Robert; her parents; her brother, Donnie; and her sister, Sue. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Shirley Wentz; her children, Laura Haynes (and her partner Daryl Epperson), Thomas “Beau” Mohr; her nephew, Eugene Michael Wentz (and his wife Sue Ann); her grandchildren, Kristin and Austin Haynes (and his wife Elizabeth); three great-grandchildren, Jack, Ethan, and Hannah Haynes; as well as numerous extended family and friends who were blessed by her presence.
