Martha Mary Murray McDonald passed away on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Hugo A. and Catherine D. Murray on December 16th, 1940. Martha completed her education at the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, Inc.
Martha spent her career teaching early elementary school in Wisconsin and Texas. She was an active member of organizations such as the Quail Valley Ladies Golf Association, Quails, and Retired Teachers. She volunteered often, whether it was helping with her girls’ activities, as a reading mentor, or neighborhood crime watch. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, playing bingo, and playing poker. She loved to read and was a member of several book clubs. She enjoyed spending time with friends and was always up for a social adventure. Martha did not miss a single competition or performance of own daughters or her grandchildren. As one close friend said about Martha, “Martha was the Mayor-she knew everyone and everyone knew her. She had a memory that would make an elephant blush, loved to laugh, and called it like it is. Fiercely independent, we can all hope to live like she did to our last days.”
Martha was preceded in death by John Dale McDonald, her husband of 53 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Catherine Agnes and Hugo Murray. She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Molly and Len Brogan, and Meghan Becker. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sean (26) and Noelle Brogan(26), Ellie Becker (19), Erin Brogan (16) and Sarah Becker(15).
