Martha Webster Landreth Nolan was born April 17, 1917 in Greensboro, N.C. & passed away Sept. 09, 2012. Martha was the daughter of Jesse & Edgar Landreth & grew up in Greensboro. In 1943, Martha met the love of her life, Lt. Ken Nolan & drove clear across the country to get married in California where Ken was in training. While Ken was deployed in WWII, Martha worked in a military payroll office. Once he safely returned from the war, they lived in Omaha, Neb., Tulsa, Okla., & then settled in Houston, TX for many years.
Martha never knew a stranger & had a zest for life. Martha had a real love for her family & friends. The children always joked that her favorite child was the family dog! She loved dogs & always had at least one. You could often see her walking her dog in her neighborhood. Martha was quite the bridge player & there was no more important date during the week than her bridge club. She also enjoyed the garden club but mostly enjoyed all the friends she made along the way. Once the children were raised, Martha & Ken loved to travel & were blessed to take many nice trips.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Sally Nolan of Austin, TX. & Tracey Stanley & her husband, Daniel, of Grapevine, TX., granddaughter, Cassie Janda & her husband, Greg , & great granddaughter, Claire & grandson, Ryan Stanley. Martha is also survived by her son, Dr. Steve Nolan & wife, Peggy of Sugar Land, TX., grandson, CAPT Sean Nolan & his wife, Dr. Melody Nolan, granddaughter, Shannon Randle & her husband, Dr. Reese Randle, great grandson, Rhodes, great grand daughter, Harper, & grandson, Spencer Nolan.
Martha will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks & Altus Harbor Hospice for the wonderful care you gave Martha. There will be a graveside service for the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association, the S.P.C.A., or the Humane Society.
