With deep sorrow, we announce that Mary-Alice DeSpain, age 78, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away on March 23, 2026. Mary-Alice was born on June 10, 1947, in Mineola, New York, to the late Alice and John Belo. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Mary-Alice was a devoted animal lover, avid gardener, and competitive card player.
Mary-Alice’s love language was gift-giving. While others might keep a gift shelf or drawer, she dedicated an entire room to collecting the perfect items for family and friends. Mary-Alice was always generously thinking of others.
Mary-Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and John Belo; her infant sister, Mary Frances; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins from her big, beautiful Portuguese family. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Lawrence “Larry” DeSpain; daughter Michelle DeSpain; daughter and son-in-law Jennie and Freddy Donovan; grandchildren Cadence and Chloe Donovan; brother and sister-in-law John and Bonnie Belo; aunt Mary Lou Price; niece, Caroline Barton (Adam); and many beloved cousins.
A celebration of Mary-Alice’s life will take place on Monday, March 30, at 10 a.m. at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77478. Friends and family are welcome to attend and share memories.
