Medardo Manuel Martinez III passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home on Thursday, December 27th, 2019 in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 88. Medardo was born on June 27th, 1931 in La Habana, Cuba to Medardo Manuel Martinez II and Andrea Avelina Oliva de Martinez. He is preceded in death by his parents Medardo Manuel Martinez II and Andrea Avelina Oliva de Martinez. His brother Jorge Alberto Martinez. His sons-in-law Markel Hudgins and Theodore Wugofski. Medardo is survived by his wife; Nelva Pilar Martinez. His children; Medardo Martinez IV and wife Maria, Nelva Simon and husband Jose, Ana Wugofski, Maria Hudgins, and Lourdes Montes and husband Jorge. His Grandchildren; Sofia Garcia and husband Raul Espinosa, Jose Simon and wife Jessica, Jessica Valdes and husband Patrick, Jared Simon and fiancée Blaire, Christopher Hudgins, Michael Martinez and wife Mason, Bianca Brittain and husband William, David Wugofski, Eric Hudgins and fiancée Katerina, Jonathon Martinez, Jordan Simon, Jorge Montes II, Alejandro Montes, Daniel Martinez, Jason Hudgins, and Enrique Montes. His Great Grandchildren: Hannah Hudgins, Raul Espinosa, Gabriel Espinosa, Sloan Simon, Eliza Valdes, and Arya Simon. Medardo graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1953 & 1954 with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. He married his childhood sweetheart Nelva Pilar Avendano, on September 26, 1953. They were devoted to each other and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. Medardo began working for Snaremary an Engineering Company expanding the Nickle Plant in Nicaro, Cuba. In 1960 Medardo and his family immigrated to the United States, fleeing the communist Castro government in Cuba. Once arriving in the USA, he worked for The Ridgid Tool Company travelling throughout Latin America. He was a very hard working and talented engineer who later went on to form his own companies, including Nelvamar Corporation (an Import/Export company), and Virmeco Corporation (a construction company). He completed his professional career working for various EPC companies in the Houston area and spent time on overseas assignment in Venezuela, South Korea, and Thailand. Medardo was a talented pianist who performed as a young man and later entertained family and friends with impromptu piano concerts. He loved all types of music, but his one true passion, apart from his wife and family, was dancing Latin music. He was the life of the party and could always be found on the dance floor with his wife, daughters or female friends dancing the night away. Medardo’s also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 29th, 2019 from 4-8pm at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek. Mass on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10am will be held at Saint Laurence Catholic Church and internment following mass at Memorial Oaks Cemetery with a reception to follow.
