

Richard Peter Goerlich, age 69, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2026. A man loved by everyone he met, Richard pursued many passions during his 69 years of life and was known for his kindness, strength, and devotion to the people closest to him.
Born in Mount Clemens, Michigan, on March 23, 1956, Richard was the son of Peter and Jean Goerlich. He grew up in New Baltimore, Michigan, where he spent his early years and formed lifelong memories.
Richard lived a life centered on love, family, friendship and adventure. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and stability to those around him. Those who knew Richard will remember his warm heart, his willingness to help others, and the quiet strength that defined his character. Richard dedicated 46 years of his career as a chief engineer, working with various companies and most recently at the Highland Tower condominiums, where he was admired and appreciated by his coworkers and residents alike. Richard was a mentor and cherished friend to countless associates and contractors.
Outside of his work, Richard found joy in many interests. His greatest passion was offshore fishing on his boat, “The Hook Up,” at his fishing camp in Sargent, Texas. Richard enjoyed going on overnight fishing trips with his son Jesse and daughter-in-law, Jessica. His other passions included restoring and riding his collection of motorcycles that reflected his adventurous spirit. Richard was always quick to share his latest plantings and show off his backyard and butterfly garden to all who visited. He also enjoyed traveling and attending concerts, always appreciating the experiences and memories they brought.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie; his son, Jesse Goerlich and wife Jessica; his stepson, Mason Sopon Lary and his wife Mageida; his stepdaughter, Paige Caldera and husband Tony. He was known as "Paw-Paw" to his four grandchildren, Emily and Sarah Goerlich and Mila and Axel Caldera. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Taylor and husband Greg; his brother, Rob Goerlich and wife Tammy; and brother, Mark Goerlich and his partner Anna.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the genuine connections he made with everyone he met.
Richard’s life will be honored and remembered by those who gather to celebrate the love and impact he brought to the world. Though he will be deeply missed, the legacy of his kindness and the memories he created will remain with his family and friends, always.
