Robert Spottiswood Martin III

ROBERT S. “BOB” MARTIN III, died May 2, 2013 in Sugar Land, Texas. Born December 12, 1924 in Luling, Texas, Bob's family moved to the Houston community of Pierce Junction when he was 3 years old. He attended San Jacinto High and Rice Institute before entering the Navy, where he served in the Pacific during WWII. When he returned home, Bob earned two degrees from the University of Houston.

Bob married Kay Kimball in 1948 and began working for the Tuboscope Company as an engineer manager and eventually VP of operations. His position provided opportunities of travel to company operating locations all over the world. He received numerous company awards, but he was most proud of the Green Dragon Award for “effort and accomplishment exemplifying the spirit of Tuboscope.”

Bob’s family moved to Sugar Creek in 1973 where he enjoyed playing golf and retired on his 62nd birthday. Soon thereafter he organized “Former Employees of Tuboscope” which he coordinated for more than 15 years.

Bob and Kay were blessed to have all of their immediate family living nearby during their senior years. He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters, Kathy Griffith, Midge LeCroy, and Jamie Martin Currie and her husband Rocco Currie. He is also survived by his sister, Maurine Sullender; granddaughter, Kristin Richter and her husband Chad Richter; and two exceptional great grandchildren, Reid and Rachel Richter.

A memorial service, celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2013, at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave., Houston, where the Rev. Canon John Newton, is to officiate. (Parking is available in the Cathedral Garage on San Jacinto.) Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Latham Auditorium.
