Roy Edward Adamcik

He was born on November 24, 1948, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas, to parents Edward Frank Adamcik and Mary Bartosh Adamcik.

Roy was a proud graduate of Holy Ghost Catholic School, Strake Jesuit College Preparatory and the University of Texas at Austin, becoming a Life Member of the Texas Exes. During his undergraduate years at the University of Texas, he was most proud of winning the 1968-69 Intramural Men's Class A Softball Championship as a member of the Brown Helmets softball team, where he played the position of catcher. He earned his master's degree in education at the University of Houston.

In 1968, he met the love of his life, Merry Westbrook, on a quadruple blind date to a Houston Astros baseball game. They dated through college and married in December 1971 after both had graduated college.

A lifelong educator, Roy's career spanned 41 years, beginning in Houston ISD and spending his final 23 years teaching at I.H. Kempner High School in Fort Bend ISD. He continued his involvement with school sports, helping with the girls softball team and working in the press box at Kempner High School baseball games. In 2012 the Kempner press box was named in his honor.

Roy was always an avid sports fan, following Texas Longhorns football as a season ticket holder for many years. He also followed the Houston Astros, from their beginnings as the Colt .45s to present. He was thrilled to travel to Cooperstown, New York for the induction of Astros legends Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Despite their few achievements, Roy was a proud fan of both the Houston Oilers and the Houston Texans.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merry Adamcik; son, Scott Adamcik; daughter, Emily Lerch, and son-in-law Dylan Lerch; Brother, Mark Adamcik and his wife Donna; and four grandchildren Evan Adamcik, Elizabeth (Liz) Adamcik, Bradley Adamcik, and Lucy Adamcik. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward (Eddie) and Mary Adamcik, and sister Pamela Adamcik Baldry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478, on September 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Crusader Fund at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Roy's name.
