

R.G. was born on February 3, 1952, in Kerrville, Texas, to his loving parents Roy J. and Ollie Belle (Petty) Vaughan. He was a graduate of McLeod High School in McLeod, Texas, graduating in the Class of 1971. He then attended the Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, where he studied Electronics Technology and completed his coursework in 1974.
Afterward, he moved to Houston where he was employed as an engineering technician for Life-Tech Instruments. In 1982 he joined the City of Houston where he remained until his retirement in 2002. He retired as an administrative supervisor in the Department of Public Works and Engineering.
R.G. was known by his friends as a kind, generous and loving man who enjoyed organizing, cooking, and hosting gatherings for family and friends. He enjoyed traveling a great deal, but also valued his time at home spent with his life partner Gerald Huffman and their bulldogs. R.G. took pride in their home and spent many hours working on projects around the house, working in the yard, and sharing time with neighbors. He also had a very strong personal faith as a Christian.
R.G. is survived by Gerald, his life partner of 28 years. Other survivors include two sisters, JoJo (and husband John) Parker of Jefferson, Texas, and Abbie Platt of Dubberly, Louisiana, as well as 13 cousins, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, special friends and other members of both his and Gerald’s families.
Preceding R.G. in death were his parents and his sister Delores Matthews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 3 p.m. at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478.
A catered reception will follow from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Event Center at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek.
In addition, a Service of Committal and Inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Good Exchange Cemetery. The Cemetery is directly across the road from the Good Exchange Baptist Church located at 314 County Road 4567, Bivins, Texas 75555.
Officiating both the Celebration of Life in Houston and the Service of Committal and Inurnment in the cemetery in Bivins will be The Rev. Dr. Rick Ward-Harder.
