Shirley Marie Moore

Shirley McCormick Moore age 99 of Sugar Land, Texas died on July 23, 2026. Born on November 9, 1926, in New York, N.Y. Shirley was the daughter of the late Mary Ellen (Baldwin) McCormick and William Arthur McCormick of Xenia, Ohio. In 1944, she graduated from St. Faith’s Episcopal School in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and in 1948 from Miami University of Ohio. At Miami University, she met and married on September 4, 1948 her husband of 45 years, Thomas Castlen Moore, of Salem, Ohio.

While living in Salem, Mrs. Moore was an active member of her community. She was a member of the Salem Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters, Salem Advisory Board for the Butler Institute of American Art, Board of Directors of SAFCO, and served for 35 years on the altar guild of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. After Tom died in 1993, Shirley moved from Salem to Fearrington Village, North Carolina where she lived for 25 years. In Fearrington she met James Franklin Perry who she married in 2000 and who predeceased her in 2015. In 2022 Shirley moved from Fearrington Village to Sugar Land to be close to her daughter Mary and grandchildren.

Shirley was a beautiful lady both inside and outside. She had a lifetime enjoyment of books, antiques, art, music, travel, and appreciating nature’s beauty. In her later years, Shirley could be found sitting on her patio with a glass of chardonnay in one hand and a good book in the other and watching the birds in the garden. She was well known for her love of walking a lifetime habit that continued well into her nineties. In her eighties she developed an interest in family genealogy and was a member of several societies including The Jamestowne Society and DAR. Shirley will best be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a caring friend always interested in the lives of others. She is survived by her 3 children, Thomas Castlen Moore Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC, Anne Moore Golden (Ron) of Frederick, MD, and Mary Moore Sullivan (partner Darrell) of Sugar Land, Texas. In addition, Shirley is survived by 4 grandchildren, William, Katherine (Brandon), and Thomas (Berjenny) Sullivan of Houston, and Laura Golden of Washington, DC. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her granddaughter, Anne McCormick Sullivan, a Houston firefighter killed in the line of duty. At Shirley’s request, there will be a private family graveside service at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio.
