Steven Paul Clayton

Steven Paul Clayton was born on June 24, 1962, in Seymour, Indiana to Charles and Doris Clayton. He grew up in Indiana and graduated from Carmel High School in 1980. He knew he was not ready to succeed in college, so he put a snow shovel on the roof of his car and drove south until someone asked, “what’s that?”.

More succinctly, he moved to Houston shortly after graduation, following his mother’s move south. He worked a few odd jobs before he was hired at Puffer-Sweiven to work in the warehouse. It was at Puffer-Sweiven that he worked for 37 years, attained his Associate in Business and moved from the warehouse to inside sales and eventually outside sales. His big personality, humor and work ethic allowed him to excel at work as well as in his personal relationships.

He met the love of his life , Laura, in 2002 while getting his teeth cleaned. He loved to brag that his dental hygienist asked him out! It was his humor that sealed the deal for her, and they were wed in 2003. With this marriage he became a father to Dara and excelled at yet another role. They spent 24 happy years together. He was so proud of his family, and it brought him great joy.

Steve’s greatest passion, next to his family, was golf. He loved being on the course and playing with his friends. There was a great brotherhood and many antics as well. He enjoyed as many weekly rounds as his schedule and body allowed. Since his retirement in 2018 he and Laura were able to travel with friends to many amazing golf destinations.

Steve is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Doris Ann Clayton, his father, Charles B. Clayton and brothers, David and Chuck.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Laura, and his daughter Dara, son-in-law Steven Weggemann, and his granddaughter, Goldie Grace. Steve was also blessed with many in-laws, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

The Clayton family would like to thank you for all the support, love and prayers. Laura and Dara continue to be astounded by all the love and support freely given.

A service to honor Steve will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Black Hawk Country Club, 12610 FM 1464, Richmond, TX. 77407.

Following the service, we invite anyone who would like to share a favorite memory or story about Steve to come forward. Whether heartfelt or humorous, your stories will help us celebrate the life he lived and the many ways he touched our lives.
