Vince passed away peacefully on February 12th after a long battle due to cancer. His loving wife of over 50 years, Jean, was faithfully by his side through his final months.
Vince was the oldest son of Arcangela (Guerreri) and Vincenzo Virgadamo and born in Corleone, Italy just a couple weeks after his parents had returned to Sicily from living for many years in New York City. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and culture and over the years, he shared his memories of his homeland through food, travel and his ever famous Italian proverbs.
During the summer of 1969, at the age of 29, and with just $500 in his pocket, Vince moved to Sacramento, California where he met his true love, Jean (Johnson), whom he married in 1971. Their journey through life together continued when moving to Houston, Texas in 1973 as Vince began his residency at Baylor College of Medicine. As a young couple, they had many fond memories as he began his path towards Neurology. It was a time filled with friends, hard work and holidays working in the hospital.
For Vince, it was his pleasure and privilege to help others and serve his patients during his nearly 50 years as a part of the Texas Medical Center. His career endeavors began with his Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Palermo, Italy. Academic accomplishments included Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine and Clinical Instructor for the Department of Neurology at University of Texas Medical Branch in Houston, Texas. He was also an active board member and held staff appointments in many medical organizations and hospitals. Vince was a member of the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the American Academy of Neurology to name a few.
His cherished family was always his priority. He and Jean were avid travelers which gave them a chance to create lasting memories with family as well as new and old friends. Vince’s world revolved around his only daughter, Dani and husband Scott Davis and their tight knit family. He experienced great joy and fun filled times with his two grandsons, Enzo, who is his namesake, as well as youngest grandson, Thad. Both boys affectionately called him Papa, a name that he chose for himself.
Vince is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Dani and son-in-law Scott Davis and grandsons Enzo and Thad. He is further survived by his brother Anthony and wife Nancy Virgadamo and sister-in-law Marie and husband Lee Dodgion and his many nieces and their families who affectionately always looked after their beloved Uncle Vince.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the medical team that treated him the past six months. Special thanks goes to Dr. Amer Zaheer for not only his friendship, but who also served as his doctor. Additional thanks goes to his many colleagues who supported him over the past months.
A memorial service and celebration of life for Vince will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478.
