WILLIAM “BILL” DONALD NELSON, age 88, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013. Bill was born November 9, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was raised in Tomah, Wisconsin. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Bill attended the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University, and earned a PhD in Psychology. He worked as a psychologist for the V.A. Hospital in Houston beginning in 1955. Later, he was in private practice as an industrial psychologist.
Bill married Arlene “Tomi” Thompson on April 4, 1947. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Kurt and Craig. After Tomi’s death, Bill married Peggy Pitts on October 12, 2003, and they resided in Sienna Plantation, enjoying their home and the surrounding scenery and wildlife. Bill loved sailing, traveling, horseback riding, and family get-togethers. He competed in western riding on his American Quarter Horse ‘Beau’.
Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Kurt and his wife Annette, and Craig; former daughter-in-law, Lia; grandchildren, Eric, Diane, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Perrin and Sagan; stepdaughters, Susan Pitts and Cindy Hoyt and their families; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
Interment will be private at Houston National Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday May 17, 2013, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4930 W. Bellfort Ave., Houston, with The Rev. David A. Roschke, officiating.
