William “Dave” Robison went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 15 after 70 blessed years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pam Robison; a son, Adam Robison; a daughter-in-law, Tina Robison, and a grandson, Nathan Roc Robison.
Dave’s life started in Seminole, Oklahoma, but he spent much of his childhood in Hobbs, New Mexico where he grew up as the only boy with both an older and younger sister.
He joined the Navy in 1967 just as the Vietnam war was getting under way. He served on the USS Tappahannock Kennebec-Class Oiler, refueling ships that were headed into battle. He saw the world on his tour, but most importantly he found God. Through his sister’s persistence and prayer, he turned from the ways of the world on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The next time he came home he went to a prayer meeting and prayed the salvation prayer. Soon after, while at one of those prayer meetings with his sister, he met a Godly young lady named Pam. After a six-month courtship they were married and settled in Lovington, New Mexico in 1974.
Within a few years they had a son and had moved to Monahans, Texas where they became engrained in the community. Dave worked in the oilfield for Sharp Drilling, BC Services and Chevron, where he retired in 1992. After retirement, Dave opened a balloon shop on Main street where he became a balloon artist. After a few years, he joined Pam working at her home daycare where he was lovingly known by the kids as Davey Crockett and Papa Dave. Over 200 kids came through their doors over three decades.
They were also well known as the town clowns…literally. The Robison family went to professional clown school and graced parties and events all over town. Dave’s clown name was Lobo Joe and he loved playing tricks on the kids. He also loved fishing with family and friends, always looking for a great fishing hole.
Dave served on the boards of many local churches and outreach ministries, including the Gleaners and Full Gospel Business Men’s Association. Above all else, in everything he did, every day, Dave was committed to sharing the love of Jesus and how He changed his life forever. He wanted to make sure that no matter what, that you knew that Jesus loved you and there was a straight path to His unending grace and forgiveness. All you need to do is ask Him into your heart.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, W.H. Robison and his mother, Freda Robison as well as his in-laws, who he counted as second parents, Harry and Opal Mattlin. He is survived by his sisters Sharon Alwin, Idaho; Roberta Luckie, Florida. He is survived by Pam’s sisters, who he counted as his own, Debbie Maxwell, Texas; Carol Comeaux, Louisiana and Laurie Mattlin, Louisiana. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who could always count on him to be there for them.
