In 1973, Wilma emigrated to the United States with her family in search of a better future and to escape the hardships of Martial Law in the Philippines. She first settled in Scottsboro, Alabama, before making her home in Houston and Sugar Land, Texas, in 1975. There, through perseverance, sacrifice, and determination, she built a life of meaning, accomplishment, and deep devotion to her family.
Wilma was a proud graduate of San Juan de Dios Hospital, School of Nursing in the Philippines, where she earned her nursing degree. She devoted her professional life to the care of others, serving with skill and dedication at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, OakBend Hospital in Richmond, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Later, with vision and resolve, she founded InterActive Health Care, extending her lifelong calling of service in a way that touched many lives.
A devout Catholic, Wilma was a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Her faith was the quiet anchor of her life, guiding her through every season with strength and conviction. She also generously supported many causes and efforts at St. Theresa, reflecting both her devotion to her parish and her giving spirit.
Beyond her devotion to family and work, Wilma found great joy in traveling the world. From the pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China, and so much in between, she embraced the beauty, history, and wonder of the world with gratitude and delight. Travel was one of her great passions and reflected her adventurous spirit, her curiosity, and her desire to live life fully. She also had a gift for making friends wherever life took her, and many of those friendships became lifelong relationships that she treasured deeply.
Wilma was also known for her generosity and for always being willing to help anyone in need. She gave freely of herself, whether through her care, her support, or her presence, and she touched the lives of many through her open heart and compassionate spirit. She was a strong-willed woman who knew what she wanted and pursued it with purpose. She held herself to high standards and expected the same from others, leaving an example of discipline, determination, and steadfast character.
Wilma will be remembered for her deep faith, her strength of spirit, her generosity, her devotion to her family, and the remarkable life she built through courage and conviction. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dignity, perseverance, and grace. Though she is deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, in the family she cherished, and in the many lives she touched along the way.
May she rest in the peace of Christ and rise in glory.
