Yvonne Rowland Munden, 81, died March 10th, 2021 in Sugar Land, Texas. Yvonne was born in Altavista, Virginia, on May 21, 1939, and raised in nearby Hurt, where she excelled in school and played piano and organ for the Hurt United Methodist Church.
First in her family to venture to college, Yvonne graduated in 1960 with a degree in chemistry from the College of William & Mary, where she met her husband, Larry. After working at Tulane University, she dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother, and later, grandmother. She was an avid gardener and she enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing piano. She was a charter member of a bridge group who played cards together for over 25 years.
Yvonne organized adventurous vacations for her family across 35 states, and in later years enjoyed travelling the world with Larry. She maintained close friendships with her high school friends in Virginia. After leaving Virginia, she lived in New Orleans, Denver, Houston, Perth, Melbourne, and Sugar Land.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Larry Munden; her children, Kevin of Houston, Jennifer Petty of El Paso, and Robert (Kristine) of Austin; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda and Claire Petty, and Jasper and Schuyler Munden. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Crews, and brother Eric Rowland, and several nieces and nephews in the Altavista area. She is predeceased by her brother Leon Rowland, sister Emily Witt, and her parents, Hamet and Elsie Love Rowland. She is loved and missed dearly. She will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston.
