Zane attended Spring Branch High School and graduated from Sam Houston State University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was an active member in her community. As a volunteer for Rodeo Houston she served on both the Ft. Bend Go-Texan and Communications Committees for a combined 16 years. She also was a member of the HLSR Lady Lambs. Additionally, she has been a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sugar Land for over 28 years. Notably, she was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Year’ in 1995 by the Sugar Land ARC for her work with children and adults with disabilities.
Family and friends were Zane’s passion and delight. Her favorite pastime was just visiting with any one of her numerous close friends and family members. Socializing was her hobby, and she consistently found ways of being among people, from her career as a Real Estate and Title Agent, to being elected as the Director of the Board of the Texas Association of Realtors, to being a volunteer cheerleading coach for her daughter Jill’s cheerleading squad, to later diving head first into the Aggie Mom’s Club of Sugar Land.
She was selflessly devoted to her family, a loyal and beloved friend; her loving and graceful spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her. Zane is survived by her daughter, Jill Ray; granddaughter, Lacey Ray; son, Kyle Watkins; daughter- in- law, Lindsay Watkins; sister, Jacqueline Johnston; and brother, Lamar Johnston. Zane also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and close friends.
