A native of Jennings and a resident of Sulphur for over 50 years, Dr. Richert dedicated his life to the care and well-being of children across Southwest Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Biochemistry, then earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his postgraduate residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1974, Dr. Richert moved to Sulphur and opened the Sulphur Pediatric Clinic, which later became The Pediatric Center of Southwest Louisiana. He was proud to open the first Pediatric Practice in Sulphur and be the first Pediatrician on staff at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, setting a standard of excellence in Pediatric care for the region.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Richert was a man of many passions. He was an avid art collector and a talented cook who loved to entertain. He thoroughly enjoyed photography, fishing, cycling, and spending time at his camp in Lake Arthur.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Gay Gatewood Richert of Sulphur; his children, Dr. Albert W. Richert, Jr. and wife, Linley of Sulphur, Katie Richert Daniel and husband, Bob of Sulphur, John Richert of New Orleans, and Mary Richert Hendrie of Taylor, Texas; his brothers, Arthur Richert of Slidell, and Dr. Allen Richert and wife, Dale of Sulphur; and his grandchildren, Grace Richert, Leah Richert, Owen Richert, Hazel Daniel, and Gene Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lorena Richert; and his siblings, Charles Richert, Jerry Richert, and Barbara Richert Ivey.
A Celebration of Albert's Life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 18, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Hixson's Celebrant, Jody Tyler. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service Friday in the funeral home.
Dr. Richert's legacy of compassion, service, and joy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
