Mrs. Perry, a lifelong Sulphur resident, was a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. She retired from West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in 1999 after 25 years of service as a medical transcriptionist and office manager of the radiology department. Her passion for quilting was shared by her and her husband, John. She was a member of Calcasieu Cut Ups, Mustard Seed, Guilded Ladies Quilter’s Group which met after Tuesday’s Mustard Seed meeting, and Gulf States Quilters Association. She also enjoyed embroidering, and loved following her grandchildren in their sporting activities. She will be fondly remembered for being stubborn and bossy.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years and 45 days, John L. Perry; children, Lisa Weaver of Sulphur, Cindy Gillard and husband Tinnie of LaGrange, Texas, and John Eric Perry and wife Carolyn of Sulphur; brother, A. J. Drost of Ruston, LA; sister, Gladys Bunting of Lavonia, Georgia; very close niece, Sharon Ann Griffith; and four grandchildren, Garret Wayne Gillard, Blair Alice Gillard, Brennen Kade Gillard, and Tyler Reed Perry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy W. and Kathryn Drost; brother, Alvin “Buster” Drost; sisters, Mary Kathryn Griffith, Wand Lee Byrd, and Lillabel Arnold.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Heather Leyland will officiate. Burial will follow in Dutch Cove Cemetery of Moss Lake.
