She was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur where she was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church. She enjoyed tending to the plants in her greenhouse and was an avid reader. Although Bernice had no children, she treated all of her nieces and nephews as her own.
Survivors include one brother, Robert Hamburg of Manchaca, Texas; two sisters, Anna Mae Rue of Lake Charles and Frances Marie Box of Wichita Falls, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, C.F. and Minnie Nelson Hamburg; and a brother, Charles Richard Hamburg.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulpur Memorial Funeral Home. Dr. Ronnie Burke will officiate. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
