She retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where she worked as a dedicated school bus aide. Alongside her husband, Bonnie also owned and operated the family dairy as well as The Burger Barn in Carlyss, where they created not only a livelihood but also lasting friendships within their community.
Bonnie’s legacy of love continues through her children: Roderick Stutes of Carlyss, Rex Stutes and wife Pam of Carlyss, Brit Stutes and partner Cindy Smith of Carlyss, Janna Stutes Broussard and partner John Voge of Carlyss, and Tabetha Stutes Peck and husband Jason of Sulphur, and best friend / caregiver Kristi Dennis of Sulphur.
She was a proud grandmother to Bridget and Joshua Fontenot, Brennan Peck, Summer, Chase, and Skyler Stutes, Dylan, Collin, and Hallie Broussard, and proud great-grandmother to Brylon Fontenot, Maddyn and Owen Peck, Theodore and Ivory Stutes, who will carry her memory forward with love.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Maurice “Sonny Boy” Stutes and her brother, Benson “Benny” Guidry.
Bonnie’s home was a refuge — always open, always welcoming, filled with laughter, good food, and the comfort of her steady love. Whether she was reading, sewing, painting or working on her latest project at the kitchen table, she poured her heart into all that she did. As a member of the Altar Society, the choir and a devoted parishioner of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlyss, her faith guided her every step. Sonny and Bonnie were the first couple to be married at St. Theresa’s when it was first a Mission Church. Though she will be deeply missed, the warmth of her spirit and the legacy of her love will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Rosary will be held at 11:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Father Sibi Kunninu will officiate. Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
"He whom we love is not hidden in the ground; he is received into heaven. Let us wait a little while, and we shall be once more with him. The time of our separation is not long, for in this life we are all like travelers on a journey, hastening on to the same shelter.": — St. Basil the Great
