

He was a native of Rayville and spent the majority of his life in Sulphur, where he graduated from Sulphur High School in 1956. Charles enjoyed genealogy, visiting with his friends, and watching Sulphur High School sports, having been a football season ticket holder since the early 1960s. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lake Charles where he served in many capacities including Bishop of the Lake Charles Ward. He worked as an Instrument Technician with Conoco/Vista. After his retirement in 1988, he worked as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in the Calcasieu Parish School system for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Charles adored his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Chris Edward Dees (Allison), and Gwen Elizabeth Dees Pogue (Brad), all of Sulphur; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Dillon, Daniel, and Lindsay Dees, Ivy Pogue Huntington (Calder), and Taylor, Whitney, and Evan Pogue; and three great-grandchildren, Piper, Rhett, and Mollie Huntington. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Martha Elizabeth Acker Dees; his parents, John and Myrtis Dees; and an infant sister.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 26, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Stake President Rendell Newton of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home.
