

“Pee Wee” was a longtime member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. Charles was a member of the Masonic Lodge #424 for many years, and was a past Grand Master. In 1963, he began serving as Business Manager of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #407, and Lake Charles Metal Trades Council. Later served as a Federal Mediator with the United States Government and worked at John Gray Institute in Beaumont, Texas. “Pee Wee” loved all sports, and was very involved in the recreational dept. serving as Commissioner of Sulphur Parks and Recreation. He was honored on the park’s Wall of Fame. He was a loving husband to his wife, Joan for 65 years. He was a devoted father to six sons, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Fenner Tolbert, son, Timmy Tolbert, and parents, Conley and Ora Tolbert, and a brother, Robert “Bobby” Tolbert.
Survivors include his five sons, Tommy Tolbert and wife, Janis of Lafayette, David Tolbert and wife, Carol Ann of Huntsville, AL, Michael Tolbert and wife, Elnette, Jeffery Tolbert, and Mark Tolbert all of Sulphur; a daughter-in-law, Tami Tolbert of Carlyss; a brother, John William Tolbert of Lake Charles; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rev. Ellen Alston will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, and will resume from 9-10a.m. Thursday at the funeral home .
