Cheryl’s vibrant spirit is carried on by her husband, William; her six children and eight grandchildren; her parents and siblings; and, everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Cheryl was born on May 18, 1966 in Long Beach, California. She was a lifelong resident of Sulphur, La. throughout her life. Cheryl loved people with every ounce of her being. Her infectious laughter, boundless creativity, and endless devotion to serving others were her trademarks that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Her husband, William, was her one and only love since she was 16 years old. Their extraordinary love has inspired so many people, including their six children, who will never forget her delightful squeals when he arrived home from work each day. The couple was married on July 21, 1984. They had six children; Victoria, Meredith, Sterling, Madeleine, Sophia, and Patriot; and eight grandchildren.
Throughout the years, Cheryl owned and operated multiple businesses including "A Room With A View Gift" store in Sulphur and Hartley Home Renaissance Company. After Hurricane Rita, William and Cheryl remodeled several homes in the Lake Area, many of which sold within the first few hours on the market. William and Cheryl’s combined talents of quality craftsmanship and exquisite creativity were well known, and the “Hartley houses” demonstrated her remarkable taste and style.
Cheryl attended McNeese State University, and was passionate about learning. Among her academic and entrepreneurial adventures, was America Make Do, a mother-daughter endeavor to promote US fabric milling and created custom pieces of up cycled clothing. Literally everything and everyone she touched was marked by her deep beauty and grace.
Most recently, Cheryl was a certified home designer and realtor at Ingle-Safari Realty. She loved to help families search for the perfect home, and was passionate about helping others make a house into a home.
Survivors include her husband, William; her children, Victoria Ellender and husband, Cody; Meredith Gunter and husband, Jonathan; Sterling Hartley, and wife, Tyler; Madeleine Hartley; Sophia Hartley; and Patriot Hartley; her grandchildren, Noble, Dahlia, Fox, and Violet Ellender; Landon, Graham and Grace Gunter; and William Asher Hartley; her parents, Ted and Sallie Garner; her sisters, Dora Mitchell and husband, Mike; and Rhonda Goltzman and husband Greg; and her in-laws, Bill and Jeanette Hartley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 6, at Hixson- Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Friday, February 5, and 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly.
