Christian Douglas Abshire, 16, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in a Houston, Texas hospital.

Christian was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. He enjoyed building things, especially with legos, and also enjoyed going fishing. He had a great sense of humor and often played jokes on the hospital staff. Christian was very kind-hearted and caring, always being more concerned for others than himself. His genuine sweet spirit will always be remembered by anyone who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Allen Abshire.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, in Maplewood First Baptist Church. Dr. Ronnie Burke will officiate. Visitation is Monday from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., all in the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the memorial service Tuesday in the church. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Texas Children's Hospital for the excellent care of Christian. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at

I will always love you, Sweet Boy, and that precious smile. I'll never forget your motto: "Don't count, and NO bandaid, please!" Of course your "Heey," was very special, too. I was just thinking of you tonight.MeMe

A perfectly named child. A sweet angelic soul. Never had I encountered such a beautiful person who is so eager to make a brighter day for others despite of the pain and suffering. We, all who cared for you in Houston, miss you. I know you'll be playing football in heaven so, have fun buddy! Jeanie, Kirsten and Kiley; my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I heard about Christian through his aunt Mandy, who I worked with. Had the pleasure of meeting him and his mom at Texas Children's. His smile lit up the room. I was hesitant to make physical contact (as not to endanger his health any further), but he insisted. What a beautiful young man. My heart and prayers go out to Jeanie, Mandy, and the rest of Christian's family.
