HACKBERRY - David Victor Currie, 73, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 10, 1947 to his late parents, Leon "Sarky" & Bernice Dugas Currie in Sulphur.
He resided in Carlyss up until 1987 when he relocated to Hackberry. David owned Currie's Hardware, where he served his community with open doors since 1982. A pot of coffee was always waiting for his friends that visited daily. He was an avid fisherman and pool player. He cherished spending time with his family; including his Good Friday fish fry!
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Lena Touchet Currie of Hackberry; his daughter, Gay Currie Ray (Will); his son, David Bruce Currie (Bethany); special to the family, Brad Welch (Katie) all of Carlyss; grandchildren, Lana, Kodie, Lester, Megan, Molly, Matthew, Reed, and Ali; great-grandchildren, Lawton, Brent, Aubree and Samuel; his brother, Larry Currie(Charlotte); and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 3-8 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the New Hackberry Community Center. A Celebration of Life service, led by Jody Barrilleaux, will be at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss, after one "last check" on his store!
