

Dora was a native of Vinton and resided in Sulphur for 37 years before moving to Dry Creek in 1985. She was a graduate of Vinton High School and Mathieu Business College of Lake Charles. She worked for the Louisiana State Welfare Department and the Southwest Builder Newspaper, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Beauregard Cowbelles, Dry Creek Baptist Church, and its Gleamers Sunday School Class. She returned to Sulphur in 2001 and attended Houston River Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was the family genealogist.
Survivors include her sons, Randall "Randy" Magee and his wife Vicki, of Sulphur; Scott Magee of Sulphur; daughter, Mitzi Guidry and her husband Mike of Sulphur; brothers John L. Swinney of Houston, Raymond Swinney of Baton Rouge; sisters, Betty Jean Parker of Vinton, JoAnn Powers of Lafayette; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Magee; son Craig Magee; brother Bill Swinney; and sister Joyce Dillen.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9, in Houston River Baptist Church. The Rev. Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Dry Creek Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service in the church.
